Mind games at Millfield

I write this session blog frustrated and bewildered, let me tell you why. Arriving at the lake for first light wasn’t allowed but Jack kindly let me come for 08:30. Driving up to the gate memories of my last visit came flooding back and I couldn’t wait to get the rods out. I went through a second gate and stood behind peg three, watching the water. I noticed a bit of bubbling at around 40yrds out. Without taking this as a sure sign I continued around the lake, looking for any other signs of carp activity. As I came...

Back At Kingfisher, But First………

I planned a return trip to Kingfisher, on the Bluebell Complex, back in November 2016. It’s a lake that I dearly want to catch from and it is known for some great winter form so i chose to visit in the last week of February. I was joined by James. He had got in touch with me about having tutorial and I suggested he came with me to Kingfisher. It’s not an easy lake by any stretch but the rewards are there to be had. How To Tie The Chod Rig

This chod rig can be used on a naked chod or leader. Make sure you use a very buoyant pop up and tye it on using bait floss. Critically balance it with power grip tungsten rig putty so that it slowly sinks to the bottom. This way it can settle on any detritus or low lying weed. Here are the materials and tools you will need to tie my Fox Rigidity Chod Rig. Start by taking your size 5 Stiff Rig hook and tie a 4 turn whipping knot onto the shank of the hook. Moisten the knot, pull...

Good Enough For Broadway

Back in September last year I drove down to the Linear Complex again to hopefully net a stunner from Oxlease. After checking the weather for the next week a new wind was set to push down to the road bank but i still took the time to walk around the lake and look for signs of carp activity. On the road bank side carp were already showing themselves by crashing regularly and with that new wind set to come in during the night i picked a prime looking swim which commanded a lot of water in front and a fantastic...

Sticky Baits Krill Wafters

I have been using the Krill Wafters for two years now and since the first day Iput one on the rig i have never looked back. I use these on my favoured alt D rig and they work perfectly. With the stiffness of the fox illusion hook-link and the perfectly balanced wafter they slowly sink to the bottom with a straight rig. They hover perfectly, just over the hook, so the don’t look intrusive when carp enter the area. I have caught some wiley carp from Smiths pool using this bait. If you haven’t tried them yet then you...
